July 4th, 2009

4th of July's past

I remember the good ol days when we used to go to Arlington Race Track to watch the fireworks in Chicago. It was awesome. We'd just sit in the stands and chill the entire night. I can't recall what any of those fireworks really looked like, but I can still remember how it felt - it was so incredibly magical when I was a kid. Not that I don't get goosebumps when I see fireworks now, but it's just different. These family holidays are now these hang out w/ friends and play flip cup holidays. I won't lie, as much as I enjoy them, I had one of those moments today during my run where I wish I could go back to Arlington Race Track... I miss my dad, I miss childhood, and I miss that feeling of being so carefree.

Then there's the whole SF vs NC aspect. I remember in high school a bunch of us would go out to Regency and sit around the lake, smell the fresh pines & the remainder of any honeysuckle from the spring and get all dewy in the grass. The fireworks would last for hours & everyone would sit there snuggled up with their loved ones & dogs (everyone has a dog in NC ). Last year in SF, my first 4th of July on the West coast, I went to a rooftop party in the Mission and felt like I was getting bombed. The fog rolled in early and all you could see where colored clouds across a red/murky sky. Not very magical and absolutely freezing.

I'm excited for tonight (perhaps I'll see fireworks?), but man I would give anything to go home and see the fireworks with friends & family + pup

Happy 4th Everyone

Oh Twitter

Yesterday, the twittersphere was taken over by news of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcet (may they RIP). But then I saw this other trending topic... Jeff Goldblum?

Wha? Jeff Goldblum fell off a cliff in New Zealand and died? WHAT!?

after a rocking 30 seconds of searching (on Google!) low and behold, the man is alive and well in LA.

But what really gets me is this... it's crazy how quickly a rumor spreads on Twitter... I'm sure so many people still think that Jeff Goldblum died. It's kinda funny how crazy this all is.

Speaking of crazy, I also had one of those epic conversations with my mother... highlight of my evening?

"Did you know that if you shave your armpits, it can cause breast cancer?"

omg, mom... you have a PhD in BIOLOGY. How can you buy this crap?

stupid spam e-mail and gullible mothers...

$$$

I have had this knack for spending money as of late. Yeah, I don't know why, but I'm just not really saving much.

I went on this spending spree and can't quite stop. Snowboard season just ended... so why did I buy $400 of snowboard gear? I have dropped well over a grand on trips to Vegas, Tahoe, camping, white water rafting, hiking, and am still planning trips to Greece, Vancouver, Mexico, Antarctica, and South America to name a few. I have spend over $500 on concert tickets (granted one ticket was $250, so it's not as many concerts as you might imagine). I bought a set of books, a vacuum cleaner, new sneakers, a new bag (thank you fendi), and accessories for my phone(s). I'm looking at new camera equipment (lenses & a bag) for my dslr. I've been eating out (and drinking) on WEEKNIGHTS (which I never used to do), and I've been eating nicer meals at that.

All in all, if I look at my costs for the past few months compared to my income, I'm definitely negative. Ouch.

I'm going to have to cut back on my spend now... so after I plan all these trips (they're necessary!) and get a new camera bag (that's necessary, too), I'm going to put a stop to my spending.

  • no more eating out - hey, PB&J is my fave!
  • no more shopping - i have TOO much clothing
  • no more shoes - although I love them
  • no more gadgets - i have too many
  • no more stupid shit - cause that's just stupid
  • no more vegas...?... eh... no
  • no more taxis (dude, SF isn't that big, and walking is totally awesome)
  • no more coffee from expensive places... my friend owns a lounge/cafe that I can get free coffee at, work has kick ass beans, & I don't even really like coffee that much... f'in starbucks.
Time to be responsible!

Another year

Happy Father's Day, Dad. I miss you more than anything.

This year, as I've done the past 2 years, I went on a trip to get away from my thoughts. Surrounded myself by people who didn't know about my father's passing 2 years ago. I sat there with them in the casino until the early morning as they came to the realization that it was Sunday. They all reminded each other to call their father's and say happy fathers day. I didn't mention it. I haven't stopped missing him... it really sucks. If your father is still around, wish him a happy father's day... these don't last forever.

Moment of Glory!

Last night we had soccer playoffs. It was my 8 v 8 team and the game was early (6:30). We started the game with 6 on the field and played 6 v 8 (not a good way to start)... luckily by half time, 2 more players arrived and we were able to field a full team (0 subs unfortunately). The other team ran us into the ground, with a whopping 4 subs. We played smart, and by the end of the game, we advanced to the next round with a 3-1 win. WORD.

Stayed at the field to wait for the 8:30 championship game... given SF, it was freezing, our muscles went crazy spasmic on us and the two teams playing were both pretty good. Eyeing our competition, I found one guy who looked like Ryan Sheckler (so of course, we had to make fun of him...) We ended up playing the Ryan Sheckler team at 8:30. To our dismay, our leading goal scorer stepped off the field to get dinner with his GF (lame), but luckily we picked up one of our teammates who couldn't make the early game but came for the finals. Taco also came - word, he's just awesome We played smart and at the end of the first half we were tied 0-0. We entered the second half with a fire and scored in the first 15 seconds. We played tight defense and a smart - yet aggressive offense, but unfortunately, they got a lucky shot in. We hit the end of the game tied, 1-1. What should've been a 5 minute overtime game turned into a shootout due to the fact that the lights were going to be turned off in a mere 10 minutes and we had to guarantee a resolution to the game before the given fate.

3 guys and 2 girls had to shoot. I opted out (hells no am I going to take that responsibility). The first shot for our team went in... 1-0. They missed. We missed. They missed. We missed. They scored... 1-1. We missed. They missed. We missed. They missed.

after 10 shots, the score was tied, 1-1. We had to go into sudden death. First up was a girl... as the other 2 girls on my team had already shot, I was up. The pressure... if I missed and they made it, we'd lose. If I made it and they made it, the game would continue. If I made it and they missed, we'd take home the championship.

I stepped up to the PK line and with a full bladder (I had been holding it since 6:00pm because the public bathrooms were so gross)... I was terrified I'd piss all over myself.

I looked in the left corner but last minute turned my hips right and shot far right. The goalie hesitated and then dove right, got fingers on it, but the ball was too far out of his grip. GOAL!

Their 3rd girl stepped up to shoot. Went completely over the goal (missed by 5 ft. easily).

An d there we have it, folks, my moment of glory! The game winning shot in the championships. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta

Awkward Moment # 29818492194783

So I hate using the restroom at work when someone else is in it. I know, I know, everyone poops (and pees), but still it's incredibly awkward being in there with someone else. I don't know how other people can feel so comfortable with me being in there.

Today I was in the bathroom at work and this woman was in the 2nd (of 4) stalls. Of course, my typical rule is get to a NON-Adjacent stall (which meant using the handicapped toilet) - I hate the handicapped toilet because of so many other reasons I won't even delve into.

Anyway, there I am, pee shy and I hear this woman just letting it rip. She flushed and I thought, THANK GOD! I CAN FINALLY PEE!... but wait, no movement..

I wait a second longer... she flushes again. Then I hear her tearing at toilet paper... and she continues to go about her biznastiness. I'm at the point where I want to gag/laugh/cry/run out of there with my pants down/die. She lets another one rip. I decide, this is not for me, I skip the piss and go to leave when she flushes again. Alas, I can pee? I wait for her to leave...

FLUSH!

Now?

FLUSH!

omg, I'm done.... and just leave the stall thinking, I'll go downstairs and use that bathroom, this is too much for me.

FLUSH!

and right as I'm walking to the sink, she exits. Looks me right in the eye with one of those 'I f*cking rocked this stall' looks and bypasses the sink and walks right out of the bathroom. I'm stunned and I wait a second then walk out. As I walk out (and away from the WORST SMELL OF MY LIFE) in walks one of my co-workers - then pinning the nasty smell on me. I tried to explain that I didn't even go, that I was headed downstairs to go because I couldn't go in there... and yeah... needed to stop digging and just accept that today I was going to be looked at as that girl (you know, the stinky one who shouldn't have had the duck for lunch).

I hate awkward moments.

oh man it's only Thursday!?

This entire week I keep thinking it's Friday... to say the least, it's been a long week.

But what has gotten me through it? Soccer, Basketball, FMyLife, & of course Textsfromlastnight - so one that made me laugh my ass off?:

(978): I just googled "whats above a trillion", thats how busy I am at work.

... I was curious as to what sort of results it would generate so of course I googled it too..

wow.
